Together, we foster a culture of empowerment, advocacy, and leadership.

What We do

Junior Elites Program

The Junior Elites Golf Program for girls age 7 to 17, was established under the Elite Ladies of Expression, Inc. umbrella in partnership with Sunnyside Place Community Development, Inc. to mentor and instill traits that strengthens character, increases self-esteem, and promotes sportsmanship.

Funded with a $5000.00 sub-grant from Save the Children to uplift children and their families while Houston recovered from the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, the mission of the program is to engage, expose, empower, and encourage girls to acquire life skills to assist them in all aspects of life, through the game of golf.

The Junior Elites Golf Program guides girls through the unique experience of learning to play golf in addition to attending etiquette, social issues, and self-esteem building seminars. The training girls receive will boost their confidence, allowing them to break the barriers of their current situation and overcome any challenges they may encounter.

Homeless Referral Programs

Shelter is a basic need that many in the greater Houston area lack, including ex-offenders facing rejection from families, landlords, and public housing. The growing number of individuals released from prison each year creates a housing crisis, as they often face barriers to securing stable living arrangements.

The Peoples Coalition addresses this need by providing homeless information services, referrals, and support. We partner with local programs to help participants, both male and female, access emergency, short-term, transitional, or permanent housing. Our goal is to connect low-income and indigent individuals to safe, sanitary housing environments through community resources.

Health Referral Programs

The Peoples Coalition (referred to as TPC) will utilize the services of existing community agencies to provide mental health treatment for its clients. After the initial health screening by The Peoples Coalition staff psychologist, the client’s needs will be assessed and referrals made to local mental health facilities based upon the client’s individual needs. Specific services include:

Mental Health
  • Mental health assessment & screening
  • Individualized treatment planning
  • Group & Individual counseling
  • Referral to community mental health treatment program
Physical Health
Many ex-offenders face chronic poverty, neglect, and poor health, which can lead to reoffending. Issues like drug and alcohol abuse, along with health inequalities, particularly affect women who have experienced physical and sexual abuse. Addressing these disparities can improve health outcomes and reduce criminal activity, benefiting the entire community. After intake and assessment, The Peoples Coalition Women Offender Health Referral Program connects participants to local facilities for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Employment Programs

Ex-offenders face an uphill battle after release from incarceration. However, their best hope of avoiding recidivism is to obtain steady employment that pays a living wage and can serve as a foundation for putting their lives back together. This is not easy because many employers are hesitant to hire ex-offenders. An ailing economy makes matters even more challenging. It’s always been difficult for people with records to find jobs, but in this economy, it’s even more so. At the same time, foundations are cutting funds for ex-offender work programs. Experts say the situation threatens public safety and may lead to increased crime rates. Nonetheless, there are resources available for ex-offenders who are willing to take advantage of them. Ex-offenders who are willing to put forth the effort don’t have to resign themselves to a revolving door of periodic imprisonment.

Criminal Justice Programs

The Peoples Coalition (TPC) recognizes that first-time arrests aren’t always due to willful disregard of the law. That’s why the “TPC Diversion Program” was created as an alternative to prevent a criminal record and incarceration for many first-time offenders. Unlike typical programs focused on juveniles, TPC addresses the needs of adults facing their first legal trouble, helping them navigate the overwhelming anxiety and fear that often accompany an arrest.

First time offender typical concerns:
  • Will this incident be in the newspaper and what will my friends and family think?
  • What are the possible consequences or penalties that I am facing?
  • Will I have to go to court?
  • Will I have to answer questions from the judge?
  • How long will my case take to resolve?
  • What are the ramifications of my arrest and how could it affect my future?
  • Are there any programs that provide leniency for first-time offenders?
  • Is there a possibility I could go back to jail?
  • Will I have a criminal record?
  • Can I seal or expunge the records?
Women Offender Re-Entry Program
  • 1 in every 142 person in the U.S. is incarcerated.
  • Males are incarcerated at the rate of 1,309 per 100,000 males.
  • Females are incarcerated at the rate of 113 per 100,000 females.
  • The federal prison system holds more than 1,355,748 inmates.
  • Local municipals and county jails hold approximately 665,475 inmates.

Each year, nearly 650,000 people are released from state and federal prisons, with many reentering communities multiple times from local jails. A Bureau of Justice study found that over 66% of state prisoners and 40% of federal prisoners are re-arrested, with more than half returning to prison within three years. The Peoples Coalition focuses on women ex-offenders, a largely underserved group, providing re-entry services that emphasize education, personal development, job training, and healthy living in a stable environment.

What We Do

Individuals who come to Elite Ladies of Expression, Inc. for services have often lived in environments where they were given little encouragement/support to reach their potential, pursue their interests, or develop important life skills. Many are first offenders deserving an alternative to incarceration program, prisoners re-entering society, individuals with mental and physical health special needs, the homeless, and individuals in need of education, training or employment assistance.

Our clients are taught that the path toward succeeding and overcoming is filled with challenges, obstacles, social/political barriers, but that cannot deter us from obtaining our mission. We must remain focused and believe we can achieve. The seed we plant with individuals we serve at Elite Ladies of Expression, Inc. is the belief that a better future is possible for their children and themselves. And most significantly, we strive to create an environment so filled with information, support, encouragement, and guidance that the community takes notice of the positive changes in our clients and becomes a cheerleader for their success.
